I am embarking on a new chapter in my National Park series. This is the first in a series of portraits of animals who find their homes in our national parks. This is oil and cold wax on a wood panel 12"x12".
Mary Bell Steffen
As a fine artist I find my inspiration from landscapes, nature, animals as well as places I visit. I have been focusing on oil paintings inspired by visits to our National Parks. Residing in South Carolina, near the coast, I also paint views along the Intracoastal, including the marshes, plants, and wildlife. To see more of my work visit my website at art.marysteffen.com.

Upcoming Exhibition - Treasures of Our Coastal State
The National Association of Women Artists SC present their unique perspective of South Carolina from January 20 – February 28, 2021 at The Coastal Discovery Museum on Hilton Head Island. This distinguished group of artists unveil our coastal state through their use of composition, texture and hue. Whether captured through the lens or created on canvas, these works embrace the diversity and beauty of the vistas and seas in which we live. Artwork will be on exhibit and available for purchase. I will be exhibiting the two pieces show below in this juried and curated show.
Falling Down Mt. Rainier
This painting is now finished, and the final title is Falling Down Mt. Rainier. The complexity of the waterfall, numerous flowers, fields and mountains represent the feeling of being overwhelmed. Hiking through this valley, with Mt. Rainier above the tree line, made me feel very small and the space overtook me. This is the feeling I looked to accomplish as Mt. Rainier fell over me.

Paradise Valley Hiking
Continuing on by working on the rocks, waterfall, and foreground. Aiming to have more detail in the foreground and subdue as I work towards the fields and background mountains.
